Governor Diri and Former Governor Dickson Lead Tributes for Late Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo

YENAGOA, Nigeria — State leaders, members of the judiciary and other prominent dignitaries gathered at the State High Court complex in Yenagoa for a valedictory session held in honour of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The solemn event brought together Bayelsa’s political class and legal luminaries to pay tribute to a man widely respected for his service to the state.

Governor Douye Diri, visibly moved, led proceedings as he recalled Ewhrudjakpo’s dedication to public service and the bond they shared during their time in office. Former Governor and current Senator Seriake Dickson described the late deputy governor as a valued colleague and mentor whose impact extended beyond politics.

Members of the judiciary and other guests spoke about Ewhrudjakpo’s commitment to justice, governance and community development. Attendees included senior judges, legal practitioners, traditional leaders and government officials, reflecting the broad respect he earned across sectors.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, a longstanding public servant, passed away on 11 December 2025 at the age of 60 after collapsing while on official duty in his office in Government House, Yenagoa. His death was confirmed by the Bayelsa State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party, prompting state mourning and tributes from across the nation.
